In 2001, KALS radio in Kalispell became part of the YNOP ministry. Unlike other YNOP stations, KALS was supported by commercial advertising.
As 2013 began, the leadership of Your Network of Praise made the decision to discontinue advertising sales on KALS, and for the station to focus all efforts on ministry, like all other YNOP stations.
"This decision means that the KALS staff and airtime will soon be devoted 100% to ministry...it represents a huge step forward for the station", said YNOP Network General Manager, Roger Lonnquist."The ministry of KALS will be expanded as now, instead of airing commercials, KALS will air many new short feature programs...these programs have already been airing on YNOP, but not on KALS...we're very excited about all that this will mean to KALS and to YNOP".
Effective February 1, no new advertising is being sold on KALS...there will be some commercials on the air during 2013, as KALS honors contracts that were in existence prior to February 1, but as the year continues the station will be 100% commercial-free.
As KALS transitions from commercial to donor support, a significant financial hurdle has to be faced. As this transition occurs, a sizable loss is anticipated. But, we have wonderful news!
In January, Richard Gianforte of the Gianforte Family Foundation notified YNOP that the foundation would be making a very generous gift to help YNOP through this very positive transition! The Gianforte Family Foundation's gift is enabling YNOP to extend a $45,000 match challenge to listeners now through February 28, 2013!
"This generous gift and match challenge will have a big impact on YNOP during 2013", said Lonnquist, "if our listeners meet the match, we will have the funding needed as we go through this transition and Kalispell-based staff will be able to focus 100% of their time on ministry. This will affect not only KALS, but also the entire network. This opportunity to devote all of our KALS air time and staff time to ministry will mean a lot to YNOP over the long-haul".
